Tasmanian wines have been given the tick of approval from some of the world’s top sommeliers, who recently visited the island state on a tour organized by Wine Australia.
The Australian wine tour was timed to coincide with The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2017 award, which took place in Melbourne on April 5th.
Joo Lee, sommelier at Eleven Madison Park in New York, the newly announced 2017 World's 50 Best Restaurant just last week, told The Examiner that he was excited about Tasmanian sparkling wine while he tasted Josef Chromy Wines in Northern Tasmania.
Lee said even though diners at Eleven Madison Park are more used to old-world wines, he thought his guests would like Tasmanian flavours.
"I'm looking for basically anything that’s good; wines that have a sense of place and a story about where it’s coming from.
"I'd like to offer a Tasmanian sparkling wine to pour by the glass."
